HEY EVERYONE!

          First, I want to thank you so much for considering donating to my yearlong internship for Grassroot Soccer.  While I am here I will be living in Cape Town and working in a township outside Cape Town called Khayelitsha. Khayelitsha is one of the largest and most crime stricken townships in all of South Africa. Due to extreme poverty, the majority of the population has trouble finding work. In addition, 40% of the residents are under the age of 19 and as a result there are many at risk youth that lack education and guidance in their lives. While I am here I will be working at the FIFA Football for Hope Center in Khayelitsha. It is a community center run by Grassroot Soccer that works to bring these youth together through soccer. Because soccer is a universal language here, all the youth love the game and will do anything to play. Grassroot Soccer uses this as a way to educate the youth about HIV and AIDS prevention. They use a variety of educational games and drills to ensure that the kids finish the program with a strong understanding of how to stay safe and prevent this epidemic.
          My role while I am here will be to help coordinate the HIV/AIDS prevention education programs at the Football for Hope Center. I will be training the coaches who work with the kids, organizing HIV counseling and testing periods, and overall helping the Football for Hope Center function as it should. Below are photos of the Center. Although this is an amazing opportunity, this internship is completely unpaid. I will be supporting myself for the next year and therefore would appreciate any donation you can give to Grassroot Soccer in my name. Thanks so much.
